Who we are

Banshee is a welcoming community for women, non‑binary, and transgender people who love nerd culture but don’t always feel comfortable in male‑dominated spaces. We don’t gatekeep or form cliques.

We celebrate curiosity, creativity, and fellowship through a wide range of activities and events.

Whether you’re an experienced gamer, a new writer, a craft lover, or just someone who likes sci-fi movies, Banshee is a supportive place to explore, learn, and have fun with others.

We are based in the Netherlands, and most of our members live in Amsterdam or nearby cities. We have also held events in Haarlem, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Den Haag, and Tilburg. After you come to an event in person, you can join our Discord server, where members stay in touch, share resources, and plan future activities.

Our history

Banshee started in 2016 as a safe place for nerdy women, with a small group of friends meeting to play board games and share their favorite fandoms. Over time, we welcomed trans and non-binary members, expanding our commitment to being inclusive.

As the years went by, we added more than just gaming and cosplay. Our regular board game meetups grew into craft sessions, writing circles, and themed workshops.

We have also organized Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, movie nights, museum trips, and even archery workshops, all based on what our members wanted to learn about and do together.

Today, Banshee is a lively group where many interests come together, still guided by the same openness that inspired us from the start.

Our organization

Banshee is run entirely by volunteers. A small team of organizers helps plan events, but anyone in the community can suggest and lead an activity.

We make decisions together. Ideas are discussed openly, and events happen when enough people are interested. This way, everyone can help shape the club and keep Banshee fresh, active, and inclusive.
